Приступаючи до колиски християнства в час цього виняткового для нас Різдва, виявімо браття щиру покору Синові Божому, бо з його народженням «прийшла надія народів, щоб визволити нас від ворожої неволі» (Велике Повечір’я).

Співаючи «Слава на висотах Богові, а на землі мир» хочемо також разом з Вами віддати честь нашому Хрестителеві св. Володимирові, завдяки якому наш народ народився у Церкві Христовій.

У цей переломний час новонароження веселимось, «яко з нами Бог», бо віримо в Україну розквітаючу як за часів Ярослава Мудрого та Митрополита Іларіона, коли старий Київ засіяє вічністю, а рідні міста і села, освічені іконами святих й озвучені божественними піснями, «возвеселяться, яко з нами Бог».

Складаючи всім святкові вітання і побажання дальших успіхів у Вашій благородній праці для духовного зростання нашого народу, сердечно Вас запрошуємо до співучасті у створенні Центру української науки й культури при Фундації св. Володимира Хрестителя Київської Руси у Кракові.

В ці неповторні святкові дні хочемо думкою в особливий спосіб з’єднатися зі всіма, хто знає біль втрати чи браку власної Батьківщини й проживає на чужині.

Знаємо, що не задля маєтків і не задля втіхи покидали Ви рідний край, але тому, що «жити, жити не хотіли Вам дати, – прости їм Мати».

Вам на чужині легше розуміти нас, бездомних, що колись стали жертвами виселень, а в останньому часі втікачів, змушених полишити свої домівки та могили своїх предків, рятуючи дітей перед загрозою кремлівської нечесті. Тому будемо Вам вдячні за допомогу в побудові краківського центру, якого основною ціллю є відроджування нашої незалежної науки й християнської течії в українській культурі, а також відновлення екуменічної каплиці синів святого Володимира – перших мучеників Київської Руси-України святих Бориса і Гліба, спроєктованої визначним митцем польського і українського народів професором Юрієм Новосільським.

Ця унікальна у світовому вимірі екуменічна каплиця була посвячена 12 травня 1995 року римо-католицьким кардиналом Франціше­ком Махарським, греко-католицьким архієпископом – митрополитом Перемишльсько-Варшавським Іваном Мартиняком та парохом православної церкви у Кракові Вітольдом Максимовичем. Антимінс з мощами святих мучеників на престол каплиці посвятив предстоятель Української Греко-Католицької Церкви – кардинал Мирослав Іван Любачівський. 9 червня 1997 року в каплиці відбулась спільна з українцями, поляками та представникам інших національних і етнічних меншин Польщі молитва Івана Павла ІІ, сповнена надії про здійснення апостольського паломництва Святого Отця до Києва.

У 2015 році каплиця втратила своє приміщення і нині, з Вашою допомогою, ми плануємо її відновлення.

Від щирого серця дякуючи Жертводавцям за дотеперішню допомогу в реалізації нашої спільної ідеї, звертаємося до Вас з проханням про долучення до створення українського центру в Кракові Ваших знайомих та всіх добродіїв, які прийдуть до нас із допомогою.

Approaching the cradle of Christianity during this exceptional Christmas season for us, let us, brothers, show true humility to the Son of God, for with His birth “the hope of the nations has come to deliver us from the enemy’s captivity” (Great Compline).

Singing “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace,” we also wish to join you in paying homage to our Baptizer, St. Volodymyr, through whom our nation was born into the Church of Christ.

In this pivotal time of rebirth, let us rejoice, for God is with us, as we believe in a flourishing Ukraine, akin to the times of Yaroslav the Wise and Metropolitan Ilarion, when old Kyiv will shine with eternity, and our native cities and villages, illuminated by the icons of saints and resonating with divine songs, will exult, for God is with us.

We extend our festive greetings and best wishes for further success in your noble efforts for the spiritual growth of our people, and cordially invite you to participate in creating the Center of Ukrainian Science and Culture at the Foundation of St. Volodymyr, Baptizer of Kyivan Rus, in Kraków.

During these special festive days of Christmas, our thoughts turn to those who bear the sorrow of a lost homeland or live far from their native land.

We know that it was not for wealth or pleasure that you left your native land, but because “they did not want to let you live – Mother, forgive them.”

You, living in foreign lands, can better understand us – the homeless – who once fell victim to expulsions, and more recently, became refugees forced to leave our homes and the graves of our ancestors to save our children from the infamy of the Kremlin.

Therefore, we will be grateful for any help you can offer in completing the construction of the Ukrainian Center in Kraków. Its main goal is to revive independent scholarship and Christian tradition in Ukrainian culture. Another aim is to restore the ecumenical chapel dedicated to the sons of St. Volodymyr – the first martyrs of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine, St. Borys and Hleb. The chapel was designed by the distinguished artist of both the Polish and Ukrainian peoples, Professor Jerzy Nowosielski.

This unique ecumenical chapel, of global significance, was consecrated on May  12, 1995, by Cardinal Franciszek Macharski of the Roman Catholic Church, Archbishop Jan Martyniak of the Greek Catholic Church, and Father Witold Maksymowicz, the Orthodox parish priest in Kraków. The antimins containing the relics of the holy martyrs placed on the chapel’s altar was consecrated by Cardinal Myroslav Ivan Lubachivsky, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. On June 9, 1997, a prayer service was held in the chapel, led by John Paul II, filled with hope for the realization of an apostolic pilgrimage of the Holy Father to Kyiv, with Ukrainians, Poles, and representatives of other national and ethnic minorities in Poland in attendance.

In 2015, the chapel lost its premises, and now, with your help, we plan to restore it.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank our benefactors for their support in realizing our common vision. We also ask you to share the idea of creating the Ukrainian Center in Kraków with your friends and all benefactors who may be able to lend a helping hand.

Hoping for your response and strengthened by the power of the Newborn, we rejoice with you:

On graves overgrown with grass,
The spirit of freedom now gives us birth,
And on your tireless wings,
Ukraine rises from captivity.
