Today, as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the publishing work of the Foundation of Saint Volodymyr the Baptizer of Kyivan Rus in Kraków, the Schweipolt Fiol Publishing House presents this collection of Ukrainian short stories with the intention of showcasing to Ukrainian, Polish, and global audiences the grandeur of the Ukrainian word and the talent of Ukrainian creators.

The stories told by the authors in this collection are often deeply dramatic and emotional. The fate of their protagonists – like Ukraine’s own fate in the war unleashed by neo-imperial Russian authorities – is frequently marked by tragedy. Yet within each story, one can find notes of optimism, spiritual uplift, and hope.

That hope can be seen even from the book’s cover, designed by Ukrainian artist Halyna Sobol, who strives to look toward the future with optimism, despite living under daily Russian shelling in long-suffering Kharkiv.
